Our target: dust and VOCs abatement
The company is an Italian producer of PV modules, made of polycrystalline silicon. During the process a lamination cycle is used, in order to compact photovoltaic cells with a protective EVA film; in this operation aeriform pollutants called VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are normally released into the atmosphere. Moreover, due to the particular process configuration, the fumes from the welding department, with a limited dust content, join the same exhaust flow.
In this case, as often happens for reasons of productivity, the work cycles are continuous and active 24 hours a day.
What are VOCs?
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) consist of chemical compounds made up of molecules of various functional groups, with different chemical and physical behavior, but characterized by a certain volatility range. Both hydrocarbons containing only carbon and hydrogen, and compounds containing oxygen, chlorine or other elements (such as aldehydes, ethers, alcohols, esters, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), etc.) are classified as VOCs.
Tecnosida®solution: filter cells and activated carbon filter
Tecnosida®, after an adequate technical inspection, designed a two-stage system:
- The first stage consists in a pre-treatment with filter cells, in order to reduce dust concentration. This is necessary to maintain the functionality of the next stage;
- The second treatment is an activated carbon filtration, carried out at a controlled rate in order to make the abatement efficiencies compliant with legislative decrees. This treatment is provided by a Chemsorb® filter.
